About the event
The Power of Poetry invites youth ages 11–17 to discover how poetry and hip hop have inspired generations, challenged injustice, and transformed communities. Through the work of influential Black poets and hip hop artists, participants will explore personal identity, community, and social themes while developing their own creative voice.
The series meets on Thursdays, August 27 through September 24, from 4:00–5:30 p.m. and includes creative writing and spoken-word performance techniques in a welcoming, supportive environment. No previous writing experience is necessary. Just bring your ideas and your voice.
Location: Avondale Meadows YMCA
Food will be provided at each session.
